Winning Split Raffle Raises Over $55,000 for Medevac and Mental Health Services in Wood Buffalo

Wood Buffalo, AB — The Winning Split 50/50 Raffle has come to a successful close, raising $55,440 in support of the Local HERO Foundation and Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Wood Buffalo.

The winning ticket, D-30991, belongs to Angele D., a long-standing community champion known for her advocacy and volunteerism across the region. As this year’s raffle winner, Angele receives half the pot while the other half directly supports life-saving air ambulance services and mental health programs across the Wood Buffalo region.

“This initiative reminded us just how strongly this community believes in taking care of its own,” said Lorna Ash, Executive Director at Local HERO Foundation. “Every ticket purchase helped keep HERO1 in the air, ensuring that the lifesaving helicopter emergency medical service is always available when and where it’s needed most. We are truly grateful.”

“The funds raised will directly support mental health programs in our region, which are seeing more demand every day,” said Monica Viel, Manager of Operations, CMHA Wood Buffalo. “We’re grateful to everyone who bought a ticket or helped spread the word. This raffle shows how much our community values mental wellness and care.”

Held during Ribfest 2025, the Winning Split raffle marked a new partnership model between front-line organizations and the business sector. As Official Raffle Partner, Birch Mountain Enterprises LP (BME) helped power the campaign through strategic sponsorship, outreach, and operational support.

We’re proud to stand behind programs that directly serve our neighbours and families,” said Chris Wilson, CEO and Managing Partner at BME. “Supporting medevac and mental health services is part of how we invest in the strength and resilience of our region. When we partner with organizations like HERO and CMHA, we know every dollar goes to work — fast, and where it’s needed most.”

The raffle’s success reflects the power of community-driven giving and shows how local partnerships can deliver meaningful impact.
